AFGE Contract 2009

Contract Committees

There are three committees that are actively working on the next contract.  Listed below is some of the work they've already done.  If you would like to become an active member on any of these committees, please contact us on the last page of this website.

Witold Skwierczynski  (witold1@attglobal.net)has been selected to be the Chief Negotiator for the Contract Negotiation Team.

Contract Research Team

The committee, which is chaired by Loni Schultz (loni_schultz@yahoo.com ).  The Contract Research Team consists of Union Members from all Social Security components from across the United States.  Their mission: research case law and negotiable language for term negotiations.  The committee is conducting surveys so that proposals are developed with employee input; it is also working with several legal resources to create the most advantageous contract possible.

The research team has just completed its initial report to the General Committee and is awaiting its next assignment from the negotiating team.

Contract Communications Team

The committee, which is chaired by John Oertel (afgeoertel@aol.com).  The Contract Communications Team has developed this website with input from all of its members.  Updates are regularly posted to this site and comments from the bargaining unit are strongly encouraged.

The committee has also written flyers which have been sent to employees around the country.  In the future—as negotiations get underway—there will be daily postings to the website so employees know what is happening at the bargaining table.  They may also be receiving emails at their agency addresses during negotiations.

Contract Action Team

The committee, which is chaired by Susan Cromer afgecat@gmail.com, is responsible for mobilizing employees.  This can be done in a number of ways, including rallies, offsite meetings, one-on-one contacts, and emails.

The negotiating team considers this to be the most important aspect of bargaining.  Without employee involvement, it will be very difficult to improve on the existing contract.
